Check now if you’re already properly tagging your ads on social media!
It’s a hot topic in influencer marketing: advertising on Instagram. A few years ago, there was a big uproar here, as creators were repeatedly warned because they did not properly label their advertising on social media. To make sure this doesn’t happen to you, we’ve summarized some steps you can take to make sure you’re on the safe side.
Why is proper advertising identification so important?
Advertising labeling on Instagram is so important because it allows you to be transparent with your followers that it is paid content. It allows consumers to assess for themselves what background creators are using to promote products. Here are some tips on how to make sure your ad labeling on Instagram is accurate:
Use the “Paid Partnership” tag
When you post paid content on Instagram, you can use the “Paid Partnership” tag. This tag is located under the tag options when you create a new post. This will mark your post as paid content. This way you don’t have to worry about the ad marker not being clear enough. Because this tag is automatically displayed directly above your content for everyone to see.
Use clear and plain language
To make it clear to your followers that your content is an ad, it’s important to make it clear in language.
Avoid confusing abbreviations and clearly state that it is paid content. This will prevent any misunderstandings or confusion.
Use proper hashtags
Hashtags like #advertising or #ad are another way to indicate that it is paid content. However, they should then be clearly at the top and especially not be the only means of labeling. Some creators try to get around this by hiding this hashtag in a big hashtag cloud. Avoid this at all costs, because it can be your undoing because the ad is not clearly labeled enough.
Be honest and transparent
Deceiving your followers by presenting paid content as organic content can affect your trust and credibility in the long run. By using the right tagging methods, you can build trust and loyalty with your followers and long-term relationships.
