This is the ideal way for companies and individuals to present themselves on LinkedIn!
Lookfamed HR Manager Kim Feistner reveals how you too can make your LinkedIn profile a real success.
LinkedIn has become increasingly relevant as a social media and networking platform. Nowadays, there is hardly any way around it if you want to connect in the industry and share relevant opinions and topics. However, to really use LinkedIn successfully, you need an appealing profile. HR Manager Kim explains how to do this.Kim has been with Lookfamed since 2018 and, as HR Manager, is primarily responsible for employer branding and maintaining Lookfamed’s LinkedIn account. Over time, she has become a real expert on the network.
What makes a good LinkedIn profile?
On LinkedIn, as on any other social media platform, it’s the first impression that counts. With a few tips, this can become a real success and convince people of your own person or company. However, there are some differences between private and company pages on LinkedIn.
Individuals want to convince of themselves and convey a message. Whether they are actively looking for a new professional opportunity or want to present themselves as an expert in their current job: An appealing LinkedIn profile can help them do that.
„Good LinkedIn profiles of individuals convey at a glance what their USP (= Unique Selling Proposition) is and what makes them unique”, says Kim.
One’s own LinkedIn profile should therefore be seen as an application for oneself, which one would also submit to a potential employer. At the same time, this means that one’s own resume should be provided in full. A fully completed profile (on LinkedIn this is referred to as a superstar or all-star level) also significantly increases the reach. One’s own profile slogan should also be cleverly chosen in order to communicate one’s own values or one’s own activity and attitude there and thus additionally draw attention to oneself. These steps for building your own LinkedIn profile should be followed before posting content. After all, you want your content to be shared with the outside world and to have the desired reach.
LinkedIn is also an excellent way for companies to present themselves and to convince both potential employees and potential customers of their own merits.
Accordingly, the company’s own services should be presented here in an appealing manner. It can also be helpful to address the company’s values in order to give visitors to the page a first impression of the company. Presenting the working atmosphere is also enormously important for a company profile on LinkedIn. This can be achieved, for example, by giving impressions of the working atmosphere in addition to professional content. This can also be portrayed through interaction with and from people who are already working at the company.
„Of course, open vacancies should not be neglected either, because many people still use LinkedIn today simply as a platform to become aware of the jobs”, says Kim.
Which key figures should not be missing on any profile?
On a good LinkedIn profile, there are some key figures and key facts that must not be forgotten under any circumstances. These include, for both companies and private individuals, the USP, for example. In order to give a good impression of what is going on in the company, but also of the professional career of private individuals, the most exciting and largest projects should be given a place on the profile – whether this is a particularly high-turnover campaign that a company has implemented or a particularly relevant project in which a private individual has worked.
„LinkedIn offers an excellent opportunity to present one’s own knowledge and skills. However, care should be taken to showcase skills that are serious and relevant to the industry in which you work. To refer only to Microsoft Office skills is a big mistake.“, says Kim.
How do others become aware of your profile?
Once you have built a profile that represents who you are and what you do, you naturally want this to be seen by other users.
This can be done, for example, through community management and networking. Not only as a company, but also as a private person, you can follow others, network with them, react to posts and comment on them. This is how you make contacts in the industry and gain potential customers or employees.
„Leaving a few comments every morning can already increase the reach enormously“
In addition, it can be helpful, similar to Instagram, to use appropriate hashtags in your own posts to draw the attention of interested parties to the content. Here, care should be taken that these fit the topic and the industry in which one is active. LinkedIn also offers the possibility of joining groups in which you can exchange information about relevant topics with people who are close to your industry.
