Employees represent a company’s greatest asset and the relationship is based more than ever on trust. The trust that one’s own employees consciously make the right and sensible decisions in order to steadily move the company forward.

 

What central values and characteristics does New Work stand for?

The most important values and characteristics that New Work represents are freedom, independence and participation in society. Employees are given freedom and the chance to work independently and make their own decisions.

These values rely on transparency and trust, because the way of working requires more communication among each other than ever before. It is important to organize regular consultations and to inform employees and colleagues in detail about news, problems, difficulties and opportunities. The team feeling is strengthened and every single employee should feel like a full member of the company. Flat hierarchies and belief in the work of employees support this feeling.

The idea behind this for employees is to find individual fulfillment and realization in their work and to pursue this with pleasure and full motivation. Motivated and satisfied employees project this onto their work and the success of the company increases.

What are the benefits of New Work?

Employees are guaranteed an easier reconciliation of family/private life and work and thus have the opportunity to freely arrange their own working hours: decentralized working. With decentralized working, physical proximity is no longer necessary in order to work together productively; home office is the keyword here. This creates a pronounced work-life balance, and work becomes a valued and joyful part of one’s life.

Another advantage results from the newly created freedom & opportunities for influence. Employees can develop and contribute their own fresh ideas. Open and transparent communication is of great importance here, for example to avoid misunderstandings.

As mentioned earlier, New Work strengthens the team spirit and the community among each other. The transparency and trust placed in employees creates a team spirit and boosts motivation to work together to achieve great things.


This is what workplaces in the New Work look like

In addition to the attitude, motivation and satisfaction of employees, New Work is also changing the entire workplace. A so-called “new workspace” is emerging and the dreary offices and workplaces are being bid farewell.

Instead, the focus here is on flexible and open office landscapes to increase the sense of community. The individual, fixed desk becomes freely selectable seating and a workplace of a new kind: sofas, bars, beanbags.
But in addition to collaborative working, it is just as important to provide quiet zones. More and more, for example, there are telephone rooms for making important calls and conversations quietly and undisturbed, as well as a quiet room where people can retreat for undisturbed work.

Modern office furnishings increase the feeling of well-being and lead to employees enjoying coming to the office: to work and to be a part of the team.


Does New Work also bring disadvantages?

In addition to all the positive aspects and opportunities that New Work brings with it, there is also criticism that should definitely be taken into account.

In order to live New Work successfully and to reconcile all needs, a very good and extensive organization and coordination is indispensable. Employees need to be autonomous to drive the model forward. Managers have less control and need to restructure. Structure, organization and regular agreements are particularly important here from all sides to avoid chaos.

Through flexible working hours and the form of home office, work life is constantly present and can merge with private life. The result: constant availability, no real end to the day, no switching off, personal criticism of one’s own person. It depends on the individual employee to what extent he or she can accept this attitude and continue to separate work and private life.

The question of whether a company is really more successful through satisfied and motivated employees is a controversial one. Employees usually work more effectively, faster and to a higher quality if the work is fun and they feel good in the company. But a company’s success also depends on its customers, who must also be satisfied with the products or services it offers. However: high-quality work is also desired by the customers. So the thesis that a company with happy employees is more successful is still important to consider.
