Going viral on Instagram: how creators make it happen
Short videos, frequency and creativity – How your posts reach as many people as possible
In our articles, we often talk about viral postings on Instagram, TikTok & Co. We use practical examples to give input on how relevant short videos such as reels are in this context. However, other factors also play a role on the path to virality and more followers. We’ll show you what these are using the example of our exclusive creator @about.sarina.
Daily workout videos as part of a challenge
Let’s start by taking a look at the profile of our creator Sarina. On her profile, she focuses on the topics of family and workouts – and it’s precisely these two components that she combines by offering workouts for moms who want to slowly get back into physical activity after giving birth. And that’s exactly what prompted her to launch a challenge – the 4 Minute Challenge in November.
As the name of the challenge suggests, Sarina has filmed 4-minute workout videos that are easy for anyone to integrate into everyday life. All exercises can also be done with a baby. She uploaded these videos daily in November.
Sarina’s Secret to Success: Reach Building Tips for Creator
Exactly one month ago, on October 30, 2022, Sarina had 83,600 followers on Instagram. On November 30, 2022, exactly one month later, she already has 88,500 followers, which is almost 5,000 more. But it wasn’t just the challenge that helped Sarina achieve her success; other factors also played a role here.
Increase posting frequency
Sarina’s 4 Minute Challenge has gone online daily. But that’s not all. For those followers for whom a short workout is not enough, she also uploaded a daily 100 repetition challenge. Here, one exercise was repeated 100 times each. In total, Sarina uploaded two reels a day. This fact in particular probably helped her to increase her followers, because short videos are pushed by Instagram and usually get more traffic than “simple” posts.
Virality draws consequences
In addition to posting twice a day, another factor contributes to follower growth: When a reel goes viral, it attracts more people to your account, who usually watch other, similar videos. So a viral video can have positive consequences for subsequent videos.
Continuity is Key
One viral video can mean more viral videos. That’s why it’s so important to stay on the ball and post continuously. You shouldn’t give up even if a few videos don’t get as many views as you had hoped.
